Während sich die Instrumentarien der statistischen Beobachtung individueller Mobilitäten und insbesondere der beruflichen Eingliederung Jugendlicher weiterentwickelt haben, haben sich gleichzeitig die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten dieser Statistiken auf wissenschaftlicher Ebene vervielfacht. Der Austausch zwischen Statistikern und Sozialwissenschaftlern hat somit zur Weiterentwicklung der statistischen Kenntnisse und Instrumentarien beigetragen. Dies wird in diesem Beitrag anhand der Untersuchung prekärer Arbeitsplätze veranschaulicht, wobei diese Prekarität, die wissenschaftlich neu formuliert wurde, im Zentrum der Sozialfragen steht. Prekarität kommt heutzutage eher in individuellen Laufbahnen als in punktuellen Situationen zum Ausdruck. Neben dem juristischen Aspekt des Arbeitsvertrages, wird Prekarität u.a. durch die Faktoren Gehalt, Arbeitszeit und subjektive Beurteilung der Betroffenen charakterisiert.

Yvette Grelet and Michèle Mansuy, From short-term contracts to long-term trajectories : an analysis of the changing pattern of occupational integration In parallel with the development of statistical systems for monitoring individual patterns of mobility, including young people's transition to work, increasing use is being made of these systems in the field of research. Extensive exchanges between statisticians and research workers in social science have thus contributed to the dialectic development of both knowledge and observation tools. This tendency is illustrated in the present paper, which focuses on occupational instability, a key social issue which recent research has helped to reformulate. Unstable employment has to be defined nowadays in terms of long-term individual trajectories rather than occasional situations. Apart from the legal basis of the work contracts involved, other aspects such as the salary, the working hours and the workers' own subjective feelings all contribute to the overall picture.

En même temps que se développaient les dispositifs statistiques d'observation des mobilités individuelles, et de l'insertion des jeunes en particulier, leurs usages par le monde de la recherche se multipliaient. Un dialogue nourri entre statisticiens et chercheurs en sciences sociales a ainsi contribué à une évolution dialectique de la connaissance et des instruments d'observation. Cet article en prend pour illustration l'analyse de la précarité de l'emploi, question sociale majeure que la recherche a contribué à reformuler. Ce sont les trajectoires individuelles plus que les situations ponctuelles qui définissent aujourd'hui la précarité. À côté de la nature juridique du contrat de travail, d'autres dimensions, comme le salaire, le temps de travail, et l'appréciation subjective des intéressés contribuent à en dessiner les contours.
