France and New France : The www.archivescanadafrance.org Gateway. Conceived within the framework of the Canada -France 2004 celebrations, the Gateway www.archivescanadafrance.org is the result of an exemplary collaboration between teams of French and Canadian specialists, who aimed to provide access for the general public, as well as for the researcher, to digitised archives relating to the history of France and Canada. Thanks to cutting edge technologies, the Gateway offers a database of almost one million items, while a virtual exhibition retraces the history of the establishment and management of Canada's French colony. Teaching and genealogical resources attracting targeted audiences complete the Gateway, and the integration of digital images into the database is due to follow thanks to new partnerships. Entering its second phase in February 2005, the Gateway represents a remarkable professional effort to bring scientific and technological responses to bear on the question of shared memories.

Conçu dans le cadre des commémorations Canada-France 2004, le portail www.archivescanadafrance.org est le fruit d'une collaboration exemplaire entre des équipes de spécialistes français et canadiens, qui a pour ambition d'offrir au grand public, comme aux chercheurs, les sources d'archives numérisées concernant l'histoire de la France au Canada. Grâce à des technologies de pointe, le portail propose une base de données de près d'un million d'images, tandis qu'une exposition virtuelle retrace l'histoire de l'établissement et du maintien de la colonie française au Canada.
