Résumé En

Salvatore Morelli: the European spirit of emancipation Ginevra Conti Odorisio refers to the original personality and work of Salvatore Morelli, a 19th century Italian whose positions in favour of the emancipation of women are still relatively little known. She describes Morelli's stubborn battle, in his books and his addresses to Parliament, for women's rights which he considered an integral part of human rights. She underlines the European scope of this work, given the broad exchanges and debates with other thinkers and political activists pursuing the same objectives such as the Saint-Simonians and Leon Richer in France, or John Stuart Mill and Josephine Butler in England.
