El griego en la educación de las élites españolas del siglo XVIII

During the XVIIIth century the main centres of Hellenic studies in Spain were the Jesuitic College of Villagarcía de Campos, the University of Salamanca, the Royal library and the « Reales Estudios de San Isidro » in Madrid. Nevertheless, the most powerful stimulus for the study of the Greek language was always the personal advice of men of prestige such as Campomanes. This paper tries to trace the influence of Mayáns - himself influenced by Manuel Martí - on some lawyers, physicians and scholars like Andrés Piquer and Francisco Pérez Bayer.

Le Collège jésuitique de Villagarcía de Campos, l'Université de Salamanque, la Bibliothèque Royale et les Reales Estudios de San Isidro' à Madrid ont été des foyers de l'hellénisme dans l'Espagne du XVIII* siècle. Cependant, ce fut l'initiative individuelle de personnalités prestigieuses comme Campomanes qui constitua la motivation principale de l'étude de la langue grecque. Cet article porte sur l'influence de Mayáns, influencé lui-même par Manuel Marti, sur certains juristes, médecins et érudits tels qu' Andrés Piquer et Francisco Pérez Bayer.

Focos de helenismo fueron en el siglo XVIII español el Colegio de los jesuítas de Villagarcía de Campos, la Universidad de Salamanca, la Biblioteca Real y los Reales Estudios de San Isidro en Madrid. Con todo, fue el consejo particular de prestigiosas personalidades como Campomanes el acicate principal para el estudio de la lengua griega. En este trabajo se sigue la acción de Mayáns, muy influido a su vez por Manuel Martí, en juristas, médicos y eruditos como Andrés Piquer y Francisco Pérez Bayer.
