Anti-clericalism and naturalism in the Panthéon : the decor of Jean-Paul Laurens. Commissioned by Philippe de Chennevières, Jean-Paul Laurens did the paintings for the Sainte-Geneviève church in Paris between 1874 and 1885. This was the period in France when the young Third Republic was taking root and seeking to secularise the state
