Résumé En

Maurice Denis (1870-1943) and the Stic B The “Stic B” is a range of matt paint, invented immediately after the first world war in order to cover up and enrich the rough reinforced concrete surfaces. It was basically used as surface paint, whereas its inventors set their heart on renovating the mural adornment by developing with it a semi-fresco painting. Maurice Denis (1870-1943), a painter and a recognized critic, who at that time enjoyed an actual notoriety as a decorator, was the first to use it as a decorative paint in 1927, and contributed to assure its promotion among the artists in the 1930s and 1940s. The study of his decors painted in Stic B, nourished by a rich and unseen documentation, conveys a precious clarification of the chemical composition, the conditions of its use and the critical fortune of this material little known today.
