Methods of Production of the Gold Rings in the Hellenistic and Roman Egypt. During our research devoted to the Ptolemaic and Roman gold jewellery of Egypt and the techniques used for its manufacture, we were regularly confronted with the delicate problem of the interactions and the artistic transfers. We were able to identify and reconstitute manufacturing methods, of which two were intended for the production of particular models of rings. This is the cutting in arch and the system of the two ribbons, according to the terminology we have adopted. From this technical approach emerging some elements that reinforce or complete our knowledge of the jewellery from the late time. These observations, supported by a typological study, enable us to start a double reflexion. The first concerns the origin of these jewels, in other words on possible and even probable exchanges and interactions that have led to their creation. The second on the diffusion of these jewels in the Mediterranean basin. The conclusion of this article is the occasion to evoke what the identification of these technical processes can bring to our comprehension of the jewels production in Ptolemaic and Roman Egypt.

Au cours de notre recherche consacrée à la bijouterie d’or ptolémaïque et romaine d’Egypte et aux techniques ayant servi à sa fabrication, nous avons été régulièrement confrontés au délicat problème des interactions et des transferts artistiques. Nous avons pu identifier et reconstituer des méthodes de fabrication, dont deux étaient destinées à la confection de modèles de bagues particuliers. Il s’agit de la découpe en arche et du système des deux rubans, selon la terminologie que nous avons adoptée. De cette approche technique se dégage des éléments qui viennent conforter ou compléter notre connaissance de la bijouterie de l’époque tardive. Ces observations, soutenues par une étude typologique, nous permettent d’entamer une double réflexion. La première porte sur l’origine de ces bijoux, autrement dit sur les possibles et même probables échanges et interactions qui ont pu conduire à leur création. La seconde sur la diffusion de ces bijoux à travers le bassin méditerranéen. La conclusion de cet article est l’occasion d’évoquer ce que l’identification de ces processus techniques peut apporter à notre compréhension de la production des bijoux dans l’Egypte tardive.
