Alain Brossat, Apology for the Witness In what way can our time be defined as the « age of the witness » ? The witness is situated at the juncture of exceptional historical events and the transmission of their memory. As a survivor, the witness assumes an impossible responsibility : to speak in the name of historical victims. This is an impossible mission, from which he or she cannot escape.
