Die räumliche Konzentration information-sorientierter Industrie und Dienstleistungen stellt die Information als Standortfaktor in den Vordergrund. Allerdings ist die Diskussion über die Raumwirksamkeit moderner Informationstechnologien noch nicht abgeschlossen. Die Bedeutung von Technologieparks und transferzentren auch für strukturschwache Regionen erscheint noch nicht ausreichend geprüft.

In the «Ruhrgebiet » we diagnose considerable problems in structural adaptation the fast-growing information sector with all its modern products and technologies is wanting as well. Information has developed to a new factor of production. The regional concentration of industries and services that are orientated to information puts information as a new factor of location into the foreground. Neverthless the discussion about the regional efficacy of modern technology in, information has not yet been finished. The importance of the estates of technlogy and the centers of technological transfer for the weakly structured regions seems not to be sufficiently investigated. The comparing exploration of the potential of information as for ex. in cartographing the net of telecommunication, documentaion of local specialization and the testing of information systems concerning the compatibility for the environment is necessary.
