Situated in pleasant surroundings of grazier and forest medium mountain of the Upper Beaujolais, the Lake of Firs has nevertheless at its disposal an area of relaxation that is permanent, nearby and highly populated (Amplepuis, Cours, Tarare, Thizy and particularly Lyon and Roanne). It is the result of a big investment by two cantons associated with the department to help and revitalize the area and offer some possibilities of water leisure to its inhabitants. Nowadays, it is a much appreciated leisure complex that operates on a large scale like a peri-urban basis. The analysis of its frequentation and the low capacity of waterside tourist lodgings prove it, but its officials are anxious to set up the elements of a real development of tourism.

Situé dans un cadre agréable de moyenne montagne herbagère et forestière du Haut-Beaujolais, le Lac des Sapins n'en dispose pas moins d'une aire d'attraction permanente proche fortement peuplée (Amplepuis, Cours, Tarare, Thizy et surtout Lyon et Roanne). Il résulte d'un gros investissement réalisé par deux cantons associés au département, pour aider à la revitalisation de la zone et offrir des possibilités de loisirs d'eau à leurs habitants. C'est aujourd'hui un complexe de loisirs apprécié qui fonctionne largement comme une base péri-urbaine. L'analyse de sa fréquentation et la faible capacité des hébergements touristiques riverains en témoignent mais ses responsables sont soucieux de mettre en place les éléments d'un réel développement touristique.
