Le creusement du Tunnel sous la Manche a commencé début 1987 et doit s'achever en juin 1993. L'article expose l'état d'avancement des travaux du chantier à la mi-1989, les problèmes d'organisation et de financencement d'EUROTUNNEL, les problèmes de main-d'œuvre, les conséquences économiques immédiates, et les problèmes de réalisation des infrastructures routières et ferroviaires qui accompagnent la réalisation du tunnel.
