The restructuring plan of Pechiney Company, economic and administrative expression of the scale change of the firm, have deeply transformed the small town of l'Argentière la Bessée, an area structured on a mono-industry basis. After the social and economic crisis prompted by the closing down of the factory, the tries of redevelopment have failed. Today, the way of making rebirth of the local community is on local ressources (tourist industry and knowledge). So it is interesting today to assess the situation and to enhance the study of the local territory.

Les restructurations de la production au sein de Péchiney, traduction économique et gestionnaire du changement d'échelle du groupe, ont profondément affecté la petite ville de l'Argentière-la-Bessée, un espace fortement structuré sur une base de mono-industrie. Après la crise sociale et économique provoquée par la fermeture de l'usine, les tentatives de reconversion ont abouti à un échec. La phase contemporaine est fondée sur la mise en valeur de nouvelles ressources purement endogènes (tourisme et culture). Il est donc intéressant aujourd'hui d'effectuer un bilan et d'enrichir la réflexion sur la recomposition socio-spatiale des territoires.
