Psychoanalysis between Science and Reality: Requirements for a Scientific Discussion. This article proposes to set the classical debate between the sciences of the mind and psychoanalysis starting from a definition of the later as an interpersonal method or praxis, rather than as a general theory of the psychic or of the mind which would be comparable (or incomparable!) to contemporary psychological theories. Correlatively, it suggests that the main stumbling block in the debate is not the scientificity or not of psychoanalysis, but the belief of scientists in its reality. Indeed, access to the reality of the psychoanalytical object, i. e. its process as it appears in practice, remains today still dependent on the personal experience of the psychoanalytical situation, and is otherwise reduced only to the testimony of those who have had this experience. Another way of accessing this object, a way of acknowledging its reality and study, is therefore necessary to really open the debate between psychoanalysis and science. It is a methodological challenge for the sciences as much as an ethical and technical challenge for psychoanalysis.

Cet article propose de poser le débat classique entre sciences de l’esprit et psychanalyse à partir d’une définition de cette dernière comme méthode ou pratique interpersonnelle, plutôt que comme une théorie générale du psychique ou du mental qui serait comparable (ou incomparable !) aux théories psychologiques contemporaines. Corrélativement, il propose que le point d’achoppement principal du débat n’est pas la scientificité ou non de la psychanalyse, mais la croyance des scientifiques dans sa réalité. En effet, l’accès à la réalité de l’objet psychanalytique, c’est-à-dire de son processus tel qu’il apparait dans la pratique, reste aujourd’hui encore dépendant de l’expérience personnelle de la situation psychanalytique, et se réduit sinon seulement au témoignage de ceux qui ont fait cette expérience. Un autre mode d’accès à cet objet, mode de constat de sa réalité et de son étude, est donc nécessaire pour ouvrir réellement le débat entre psychanalyse et sciences. C’est un défi méthodologique pour les sciences autant qu’un défi éthique et technique pour la psychanalyse.
