Sadrin, Anny : John Martin -The Deluge. In this study of the romantic imagination, John Martin's famous picture is placed in a long tradition highlighted by Poussin's use of the theme. It is also studied in its relation to Byron's poetry, to the popular taste for diorama shows and to contemporary science as exemplified by the discoveries of Cuvier.
