The intimate essence of Earwicker is here elucidated through the medium of an entomological approach (inaugurated in a previous article) - that of the earwig - justified by the interest of Joyce himself in this insect. This approach which enables us to explain at the same time two obscure passages in FW, namely the tale of Earwicker and the dialogue between Jutt and Mute, reveals to us the archeological remains of a nocturn human world, made in the image of the Forficula auricularia, to which it lends all its meaning, a world where the female ear, source of gossips and life is the necessary complement of the virile earwig, at times warrior and fatal.

L'essence intime d'Earwicker est éclairée ici par le biais d'une approche entomologique (inaugurée dans un article précédent) - celle du perce-oreille - justifiée par l'intérêt de Joyce lui-même, pour cet insecte. Cette démarche qui permet d'expliquer du même coup deux passages obscurs dans Finnegans Wake, notamment, le conte d'Earwicker et le dialogue de Mutt et Jute, nous dévoile les restes archéologiques d'un monde humain nocturne, à l'image du Forficule auriculaire auquel il emprunte toute sa signification, monde dans lequel l'oreille féminine, source de ragots et de vie, est le complément indispensable du perce-oreille viril, à ses heures guerrier et funeste.
