Under the Influence Lecoq, the Body, and the Irish

Through an outline exploration of key issues in his training for actors, this paper suggests that the influence of Jacques Lecoq on Irish theatre is at an early stage of development, and that, through individuals and companies linked with Lecoq, its impact may be seen in changing hierarchies in theatre-making, in the expansion and diversification of the creative role of actors, and in the orientation of performance outwards, through the vocabulary of a shared material world.

En présentant les enjeux principaux de la formation d'acteur de l'Ecole Lecoq, cet article suggère que l'influence de Jacques Lecoq sur le théâtre irlandais commence tout juste à se faire sentir. Grâce à des artistes et à des compagnies liés à Lecoq, elle se manifeste par la remise en cause des hiérarchies traditionnelles au sein du processus théâtral, par l'expansion et la diversification du rôle créatif des acteurs ainsi que par la volonté de tourner la représentation de théâtre vers le monde extérieur, grâce à l'élaboration d'un vocabulaire théâtral permettant de rendre compte d'un monde matériel partagé.
