Ceremonial houses of the Sepik river are impressive monuments set up in most of the iatmul villages. In Palimbeï, the discovery of three pillars of a former building led the villagers to question their past. The dating and the botanical identification of these archaeological remains confirmed the truthfulness of the origin myths and allowed the local populations to strengthen their social identity around common ancestors.

Les maisons cérémonielles du fleuve Sépik sont des monuments imposants érigés dans la plupart des villages iatmul. La découverte au village de Palimbeï de trois piliers d'un ancien édifice a conduit les villageois à s'interroger sur leur passé. La datation et la détermination botanique de ces vestiges archéologiques ont confirmé la véracité des mythes d'origine et permis aux populations locales de renforcer leur identité sociale autour d'ancêtres communs.
