A virus at the heart of social relations between genders In Mali, contamination being presented as mainly heterosexual, the appropriation of information concerning AIDS produces slanted and differentiated discourses with regard to the gender of the actors. People of both sexes can only apprehend this disease by positioning themselves as potential victimes and by projecting on the other the responsability of contamination. By fitting into strategic areas, the discourses on AIDS, because of its gravity and the danger it represents, reveals the conflictual nature, within the framework of social change, of the social relations between genders.

Au Mali la contamination étant présentée comme principalement hétérosexuelle, l'appropriation des informations concernant le sida produit des discours orientés et différenciés en fonction du sexe des acteurs. Les personnes des deux sexes ne peuvent appréhender ce mal qu'en se posant en victimes potentielles et en projetant sur l'autre la responsabilité de la contamination. En s'inscrivant dans des espaces stratégiques, les discours sur le sida, du fait de sa gravité et du danger qu'il constitue, révèlent la nature conflictuelle des rapports sociaux de sexe dans le cadre du changement social.
