After observing that the age of the infected and infecting population and its ageing are important factors of the dynamics of the epidemic, the author analyses the relations between the age difference at the beginning of the marriage or between sexual partners -increased by the demographic growth -and the annual turnover rate of partners. He reaffirms his somewhat provocative slogan which received a mixed reception in 1991 : «make love with a partner of the same age ». He adds that a longer schooling period for young women could reduce this age difference, the imbalance between the sexes and the unwanted polygamy of the women's first marriages.

A partir du constat que l'âge de la population infectée et infectante et son vieillissement sont des facteurs importants de la dynamique de l'épidémie, l'auteur analyse la relation entre l'écart d'âge au mariage ou au partenariat sexuel -accentué par la croissance démographique -et le taux de rotation annuel des partenaires. Il réaffirme son slogan assez provocateur et très diversement accueilli en 1991 : «faites l'amour avec un partenaire de même âge ». Il ajoute qu'une scolarisation plus longue des jeunes femmes pourrait réduire cet écart d'âge, le déséquilibre des sexes comme une polygamie non désirée des premiers mariages féminins.
