« Die Ursprünge des Bétons in Japan : Antonin Raymond im Spiegel der Architekturpresse und eines nicht-öffentlichen Archivs » von Christine Vendredi-Auzanneau In Frankreich ist das Werk von Antonin Raymond kaum besprochen worden. Er stammte aus der Tschechoslowakei und ging nach Japan um bei Frank Lloyd Wright am Gebäude des Hotels Imperial mitzuarbeiten. Er arbeitete fast 40 Jahre in Japan und übte einen großen Einfluss auf die moderne Architektur aus. Er wirkte seit 1915 in der internationalen Architekturszene mit, weshalb seine mangelnde Beachtung von seiten der Architekturkritik schwer verständlich ist. Der vorliegende Beiträg stützt sich auf die Entdeckung eines bisher unveröffentlichten Archivs, das die ausführliche Studie der zeitgenössischen Architekturpresse ergänzt. Er beinhaltet sowohl eine erste Annäherung an die Person Raymonds, der den Beton in Japan einführte, als auch eine Darstellung der Situation in Japan zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhundert.

His deep involvement in the international scene of modern architecture as soon as the mid 1910's hardly let figure out the current unfortunate critic. Thanks to the join study of newly appeared documents and a contemporary architectural press's survey, this paper aims at giving a first approach of this Architect, who can truly be considered as one of the Concrete Technology pioneer, as well as an overview of the Japanese context of the beginning of the XXth century.

En France, l'œuvre d'Antonin Raymond n'a guère été commentée. D'origine tchèque, l'architecte venu au Japon pour assister Frank Lloyd Wright dans la construction de l'Hôtel impérial travailla presque quarante ans au Japon où il exerça un profond impact sur le cours de l'architecture moderne. Son implication, dès le milieu des années 1910, dans la scène internationale de l'architecture moderne rend difficilement compréhensible son infortune critique. À la faveur de la réapparition d'un fonds d'archives inédit venant compléter une étude approfondie de la presse architecturale de l'époque, cet article propose une première approche de celui qui fut l'un des introducteurs du béton, mais aussi de la situation du Japon au début du XX' siècle.
