Die Karriere des Architekten Alfred Armand ist mit der Laufbahn der Bankiers Emile et Isaac Pereire eng verbunden. Schon 1836 tritt er in die « école de Saint-Germain » ein als Architekt der Eisenbahnlinie von Paris nach Saint-Germain, die auf der Initiative der Pereire zwischen Paris und Le Pecq gebaut wird. Armand begleitet dann die Pereire in ihrem weiteren Bahnbauunternehmen : bei der Strecke von Paris nach Versailles (rive droite) und der Nordlinie. Er baut unter anderem den Bahnhof Saint-Lazare, die Bahnhofe von Le Pecq, Saint-Germain, Versailles (rive droite), Amiens, Lille und Douai. Als die Pereire sich in dem Paris des Second Empire in die Bauspekulation wagen, macht er sich deren neuen Tätigkeitsbereich zu eigen. Er verlässt also die Eisenbahngesellschaft und widmet sich dem Bau von Mietshäusern fur die Société immobilière und hauptsachlich von zwei grossen Reisehotels (Grand Hotel du Louvre und Grand Hôtel). Ein besonderes Vertrauen erweisen ihm die Pereire, indem sie ihn mit Bau und Dekoration ihres Pariser Privathauses, sowie ihres Familienschlosses von Armainvilliers beauftragen. Alfred Armand, der sein ganzes Berufsleben lang treu im Dienste der Pereire arbeitet, erwirbt sich dadurch ein ansehnliches Vermögen. Im Ruhestand genießt er sodann das Leben eines Gelehrten, der Kunstgeschichte und seinen Sammlungen gewidmet. Armands enge Beziehungen zu den Pereire bleiben bis zum Tode des Architekten im Jahre 1888 unverändert.

The career of the architect Alfred Armand (1805-1888) is deeply intertwined with the career of the business bankers Emile and Isaac Pereire. They employ him in their first railroad project between Paris and Saint-Germain and they keep him in their service in two of their following railroad companies (Versailles and North). When the Pereire choose to invest in the civil construction in Paris, Alfred Armand gives up the construction of stations and follows them in their new company called the Compagnie immobilière. He builds for them expensive rental buildings and two huge hotels including the first of this kind in France, the Hotel du Louvre and the biggest and the most luxurious one in the world during the 19th century, le Grand hotel. The faithfulness between the Pereire and Armand is such that they give him the task to build their private house in Paris and their mansion in the forest of Armainvilliers. This deep and lasting bond between the architect and the financiers allows the former to raise a large income and enjoy a retirement devoted to art collections.

Armand les suit ensuite dans plusieurs de leurs entreprises ferroviaires, telles les lignes de Paris à Versailles (rive droite) et du Nord et construit, entre autres, la gare Saint- Lazare, les gares du Pecq, de Saint-Germain, de Versailles (rive droite), d'Amiens, de Lille, d'Arras, de Douai. Quand les Pereire se lancent dans la spéculation immobilière à Paris sous l'Empire, Armand épouse leurs nouvelles activités et abandonne les chemins de fer pour se consacrer à la construction pour la Société immobilière de maisons de rapport et surtout de deux grands hôtels de voyageurs (le Grand hôtel du Louvre et le Grand hôtel). Surtout, les Pereire lui témoignent leur confiance en le chargeant de la construction et de la décoration de leur hôtel particulier parisien et de leur château familial d'Armainvilliers. La fidélité d'Alfred Armand envers les Pereire tout au long de sa carrière lui permet de gagner une confortable fortune et de prendre ainsi une retraite érudite consacrée à l'histoire de l'art et à ses collections. Les liens entre Armand et la famille Pereire perdurent jusqu'à sa mort en 1888.
