Since 1969, the Common Gull (Larus canus L.) is a breeding bird in a sinking mining area at Condé sur l'Escaut. This note relates the methods of the implantation and describes the breeding area and the territory of the birds. Nesting has been observed, and novel observations on the position of the nest are pointed out. The behaviour of the adult birds is described from their arrival at the nesting place to the emancipation of the young birds. It is distinguished by violent agressiveness. Some details on the ecological part played by this bird give a faint idea of the causes of its implantation at Condé sur l'Escaut and in adjacent regions.

Depuis 1969, le Goéland cendré (Larus canus L.) niche à Condé sur l'Escaut dans une zone d'effondrements miniers. Cette note relate les modalités de l'implantation et décrit le biotope général et le territoire des oiseaux. La nidification a été suivie, et des données originales sur l'emplacement du nid sont mises en évidence. Le comportement des adultes est rapporté depuis leur arrivée sur le site de nidification jusqu'à l'émancipation des jeunes. Il se caractérise par une agressivité intense.
