The plant formerly identified by A. Chevalier as Clerodendrum fallax, originated from Java, has been imported as an ornemental plant into the Cape Verde archipelago and became subspontaneous in certain islands, e.g. St. Antao, Brava and Santiago. Everywhere, the cosmopolitan ant Pheidole magacephala has invaded the plant, inhabiting the hollow internodes, feeding on the calyx internal pseudonectaries and rearing scale insects. The relative immunity of C. fallax towards the agricultural pests seem due also to the antifeeding substances contained into the leaves. True myrmecophily was unknown for C. fallax (domatia).

La plante identifiée autrefois par A. Chevalier comme Clerodendrum fallax, originaire de Java, a été importée comme plante d'ornement dans l'archipel du Cap Vert et est devenue subspontanée dans certaines îles dont St Antao, Brava et Santiago. La fourmi, Pheidole megacephala, l'a colonisée, habitant les tiges creuses des sujets âgés, puisant aux pseudonectaires internes du calice et élevant des cochenillles. La relative immunité de C. fallax contre les ravageurs semble due aux fourmis mais aussi à l'effet répulsif des feuilles. La myrmécophilie vraie était inconnue chez C. fallax (domaties).
