Four techniques of handcraft fishery are described. The anchored gill nets are the most efficient, throughout the year and in both stations (north and south of the lake). Twenty three species of fishes were recorded. Two species of Tilapia (Cichlidae), T. guineensis and T. hendelotii, are constantly caught throughout the year in all fisheries. Their food regime is mainly detritivorous. The alevins in the stomachs of the males of T. heudelotii may be a consequence of mouthbrood.
