Animate being collective nouns are singular nouns which refer to groups of human beings or animals. Human or animal collective nouns are submitted both to the nominal syntax of plural nouns and of human or animal nouns. In many aspects they are submitted to the verbal syntax of human or animal nouns and of plural nouns.

Les collectifs d'êtres vivants sont des noms singuliers désignant des groupes de personnes ou d'animaux. Les collectifs humains ou animaux ont à la fois la syntaxe nominale des pluriels et celle des humains ou animaux ; mais ils ont sur certains points la syntaxe des noms singuliers. Ils ont à de nombreux égards la syntaxe verbale des noms de personnes ou d'animaux et celle des noms pluriels.
