when students first approach derivational morphology, the pre- theoretic terminology they use constitutes an obstacle to their progress, for it is intrinsically founded on history, chronology and the notion of event. This paper intends to explain why this language of description is always readily available and what purposes it fulfils.

Lorsqu'on fait un cours d'initiation à la morphologie dérivationnelle, on observe que la métalangue spontanée dont disposent les étudiants constitue un obstacle, parce qu'elle ressortit entièrement à une rationalité historique, chronologique et donc événementielle. On cherche à quoi tient ce recours spontané à l'histoire, et à quoi il sert.
