"You should see her dance!" Idea and Function of Dance in literature Since Goethe's "Werther". Dance as the figure for corporal reality in its symbolic representations and its evolution can be traced to Lotte and Werther's waltz-a sensual vertigo opposed to its own symbolisation, the program of (doomed) romanticism.
