Styles or Style? The Invention of Singularity in Classical Rhetorical Thought Reflection on the notion of style since Plato has gone from forgetting its philosophical origin in favour of listing procedures defining styles, to the emergence in the 18th century of style as personal truth, a notion dependent on interpretation, through the indecisions of Lamy's 1675 "La Rhétorique ou l'Art de parler".
