The tell‐ settlement of Pietrele is a landmark for the understanding of the Gumelnița communities north of the Danube. Archaeological research began in 1943 under the direction of D. Berciu who subsequently published a synthesis report of the main finds but it was just a quantitative enumeration of items without a description of the technological and use‐ wear marks on the hard animal material artefacts. Consequently, we tried to identify the number of such archaeological items from the old excavations which are still present in the collection of the “ Vasile Pârvan” Institute of Archaeology and then to present a different type of analysis drawing conclusions related to the economic and spiritual characteristics of the Gumelnița community at Pietrele. Firstly, we aimed to identify the raw materials from which the pieces were made. Secondly, typological categories were established. For each of these categories, the operational scheme was reconstituted and then the possible use‐ wear marks were identified, pointing towards the way the artefacts were used.

Tell‐ ul de la Pietrele este un sit reper pentru cunoașterea comunităților gumelnițene de la nord de Dunăre. Cercetările arheologice au debutat în anul 1943, sub conducerea lui Dumitru Berciu. Acesta a publicat un raport de sinteză al descoperirilor, fiind însă vorba despre o simplă enumerare cantitativă, fără o descriere a stigmatelor tehnologice și de uzură prezente pe piesele confecționate din materii dure animale. În consecință, am încercat să identificăm numărul pieselor arheologice provenind din vechile săpături aflate în colecția Institutului de Arheologie „ Vasile Pârvan” și, apoi, să prezentăm un alt tip de analiză, pe baza căreia să putem trage concluzii legate de caracteristicile economice și spirituale ale comunității gumelnițene de la Pietrele. Într‐ o primă etapă, am încercat identificarea materiilor prime din care au fost confecționate piesele. Într‐ o a doua etapă, în cadrul grupelor create, au fost stabilite categoriile tipologice. Pentru fiecare dintre acestea, s‐ a urmărit reconstituirea schemei operaționale și, apoi, identificarea posibilelor stigmate de uzură, care ar putea indica felul în care au fost folosite artefactele.
