Vine, Grapes, and Wine (Tenth to Fifteenth Centuries) - The Moslem conquest of al-Andalus did not have any adverse effects on winegrowing, nor on the consumption of grapes and wine. Andalusian agronomists from the eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth centuries consecrated a chapter of their agronomic treatises to the culture of the grapevine. Amongst these, Abū-l-Hayr al-Išbīlī of Seville and Al-Tiġnarī of Granada are the only ones who describe the vines in a way permitting to distinguish between the varieties of vine inherited from the Roman and Wisigothic eras and those which originally came from the Near East and Mesopotamia and were acclimated in al-Andalus during the agrarian revolution of the eleventh century.

La conquête musulmane d' al-Andalus n'a en rien porté atteinte à la culture de la vigne, à la consommation du raisin et du vin. Les agronomes andalous des XIe, XIIe et XIIIe siècles consacrent un chapitre de leurs traités d'agronomie à la culture de la vigne. Seuls Abū-l-Hayr al-Išbīlī le Sévillan et Al-Tiġnarī le Grenadin décrivent les divers cépages de manière à permettre de différencier les variétés héritées de l'époque romaine et wisigo- thique de celles qui provenaient du Moyen-Orient ou de Mésopotamie, acclimatées en al-Andalus lors de la révolution agraire du XIe siècle.
