The electromagnetic spectrum collected by the Landsat remote sensor depends on the generating source, the propagation through the atmosphere and the reflecting surface on the Earth. Land-use mapping based on computer analysis of multispectral and multitemporal data gives rise to different ground data requirements. Areas of known Land-use must be identified and their classification verified by field observation. In Algeria, regional economic planning needs a cartographic Land-use evaluation. Remote sensing mapping in the Annaba area is a contribution to the question of geographical mapping data base using Landsat.

Les enregistrements radiométriques de Landsat sont déterminés par la source d'énergie, la propagation des ondes à travers l'atmosphère et la réflectivité de la surface de la terre. La cartographie d'utilisation du sol, effectuée par traitement numérique de données multispectrales et multi- temporelles, donne lieu à des approches différentes. Les zones déjà connues peuvent être facilement identifiées et leur classification vérifiée par l'observation au sol. En Algérie, la planification économique régionale justifie une cartographie de l'occupation au sol. La cartographie par télédétection de la région d' Annaba en constitue un exemple.
