The high technology industry is a fuzzy and controversial notion. What is to be defined (innovation, research, consequences on society and economy) is not accepted unanimously. Criteria that allow the study are imperfect and often questionable. The definitions offered by researchfor the past twenty years have therefore never been convincing nor final. It is necessary to look for new ways of definition coming from new foundations.

La notion d'industrie de haute technologie est floue et controversée. La nature de ce qui est à définir, innovation, recherche, impact sur la société et l'économie, ne fait pas l'unanimité. Les critères permettant une approche sont limités et souvent contestables. Les définitions proposées par la recherche depuis une vingtaine d'années ne sont donc jamais totalement convaincantes ni définitives. La recherche de nouvelles pistes de définition partant sur de nouveaux fondements s'avère donc nécessaire.
