David Ellwood, « Europe-U.S.A. Defending diversity, the Americanization question in European identity debates », Mélanges de l'école française de Rome, ID : 10.3406/mefr.2002.9859
The article compares current debates on national identity in Britain, France and Germany, and locates the question of the '' American challenge'' within these discussions, i. e. the difficulty of constructing an authentic and successful national road to modemity in the presence of ail the expressions of strength of the American mode !. In this way older debates on the problem of '' Americanization'' have now become subsumed into the confrontation on '' globalisation'', as each nation, group, generation, etc. tries to construct its own mechanisms for keeping what it believes are the best of its particular traditions, and re-inventing the rest.
