The resuming of digging on the prehistorical site of Cottier from 1967 to 1971 has shown evidence of the existence of 3 different archaeological layers : — the upper layer, of which there was very little left, seems according to the implements to correspond to late or «terminal » Magdalenian, which is fairly common in the area ; — the middle layer, which is dated 18 550 ± 550 B.P. (LY 719) corresponds to a cold period and includes implements which are quite typical of the Badegoulian culture («raclettes » ) , although it seems older than most known Badegoulian sites ; — the lower layer (which shows signs of a mountain climate) contains so few flint implements that it can hardly be compared to any other culture. Both middle and lower layers present evidence of a small settlement established for a limited duration, very probably during summertime.

Les nouvelles fouilles qui ont eu lieu de 1967 à 1971 sur le gisement de Cottier ont mis en évidence de haut en bas trois niveaux archéologiques distincts : — le niveau I, dont il ne restait que peu de choses, contient une industrie qui correspond au Magdalénien terminal, mais sans aucun caractère azilien ; — le niveau II dont la datation est de 18 550 ± 550 B.P. (LY 719) correspond à un climat froid de montagne, et contient une industrie badegoulienne, mais sans burin sur encoche ; — le niveau III contient trop peu d'industrie lithique pour qu'une attribution précise puisse lui être donnée. Il est associé à un climat de montagne, et l'habitat qu'il contient (ainsi que dans une certaine mesure celui du niveau II) ne semble guère avoir été que très limité et saisonnier.
