In the twentieth century States have made particular use of the ideology of nationalism to legitimize their power. This ideology uses a polysémie lexicon with affective connotations and carries with it varied and changing significations of inclusion and precise and definite values of exclusion and negation. It is used to construct a myth. This study attempts to verify the existence of these properties in the lexicon of Quebec nationalism. In the first part of our study, after examining the development in Europe of the language of nationalism and outlining the political context of the confrontation between Quebec and Ottawa, we present a corpus of Quebec nationalistic texts and the methods and hypotheses used to study them. In the second part we analyze the corpus under three headings : elusive Quebec, the myth of Quebec, and Quebec: opposition and exclusion. This second part confirms our hypotheses about the characteristics of the lexicon of nationalism.

L'INCANTATION QUÉBÉCOISE / SINGING THE QUEBEC Les pouvoirs étatiques se légitiment au XXe siècle de préférence par une idéologie nationaliste. Celle-ci s'appuie sur un lexique connote affectivement, polysémique et véhiculant des significations d'inclusion diverses et fluctuantes, opposées à des valeurs d'exclusion et de négation précises; sur ce lexique se construit un récit mythique. La présente étude prétend vérifier ces propriétés dans le lexique du nationalisme québécois. Dans une première partie, après la genèse européenne du langage nationaliste et le champ politique de l'affrontement Québec-Ottawa, nous présentons un corpus de textes nationalistes québécois ainsi que les outils méthodologiques et les hypothèses auxquelles cet ensemble a été soumis. Dans une deuxième partie, nous traitons analytiquement le corpus selon trois catégories: le Québec insaisissable, le Québec mythique et le Québec de l'opposition et de l'exclusion. Cette deuxième partie confirme l'essentiel de nos hypothèses sur les caractéristiques du vocabulaire nationaliste.
