Telekommunikation spielt im okonomischen System eine immer bedeutendere Rolle und wird auch fur andere Gesellschaftsteile zunehmend wichtiger. So kommt es, dafi sich auch viele andere Wis-senschaften aufierhalb der klassisch technisch orientierten Disziplinen mit den Auswirkungen der Telekommunikation auseinandersetzen. Auch die Wirtschaftsgeographie der telekommunikativen Dienste hat einige Ansàtze zur Diskussion beigetragen. Es wurden zum Beispiel die Diffusion von Telekommunikation, die Substitutionspotentiale der Telekommunikation und die Auswirkungen auf den Raum untersucht. Weiter gibt es Studien zur Veranderungen in der Arbeitswelt. Der Autor môchte mit seinem Ansatz der Konvergenztheorie einen Beitrag zur Theoriefindung fur die Wirtschaftsgeographie der Telekommunikation leisten, wobei ein ganzheitlicher Ansatz gewahlt wurde, der sowohl technische, okonomische als auch gesellschaftliche Veranderungen berücksichtigt. Die in dem folgenden Text beschriebene Konvergenztheorie wird aus vier „ Teil-Konvergenzen “ aufge-baut. Diese beschreiben und erlautern das technische, okonomische und gesellschaftliche Zusam-menwachsen.
