In den sechziger Jahren zahlte Angers zu den ältesten Städten Frankreichs. Dann begann man mit der Renovierung (Wiederaufbau), der Rehabilitation (Instandsetzung des Inneren der Haüser) oder der Restaurierung der erneuerungsbedürftigsten Viertel. Zu diesen gehörte das Sankt- Nikolaus-Viertel, ein echtes Viertel im geographischen Sinn mit einer aus dem XV-XVIII. Jahrhundert stammenden Gebaüdegruppe, die von einer sozial benachteiligsten Bevölkerung bewohnt war. Es war eine langwierige, manchmal schmerzliche Veränderung. Dieser Artikel analysiert die Komponenten des ehemaligen Viertels, um dann auf die Schwierigkeiten eines solchen städtebaulichen Vorgehens, die verschiedenen Reaktionen der Bevölkerung und die spürbare Verdnderung der sozialen Landschaft der Stadt hinzuweisen.

The urban patrimony of Angers was in the 1960's one of the most decayed in France. Consequently the town directed towards operations of renovation (reconstruction) of improvement (rehabilitation) or restoration of the most ruinous districts. Saint-Nicolas was one of them : a real district in the geographic sense of the word with a whole block of houses from the XVth to the XVIIIth century inhabited by a population belonging to the very under priviliged social class. The mutation of the district was long and sometimes painful; it is being ended at the present time. This article analyses the components of the ancient district to show then the difficulties of such operations of urbanism, the different reactions of the population and the sensible alteration of the social space of the town.

Le patrimoine urbain d'Angers était dans les années 1960 l'un des plus vétustés de France. La ville s'est alors orientée vers des opérations de rénovation, de réhabilitation ou de restauration des quartiers les plus délabrés. Saint-Nicolas était l'un de ceux-ci : un véritable quartier au sens géographique du terme avec tout un îlot de maisons du XVe au XVIIIe siècle abritant une population socialement très défavorisée. La mutation du quartier a été longue et parfois douloureuse; elle se termine actuellement. Cet article analyse les composantes de l'ancien quartier pour montrer ensuite les difficultés de telles opérations d'urba- nime les différentes réactions de la population et la modification sensible de l'espace social de la ville.
