Résumé En

Summary. - Till now, about 500 Hellenistic coins have been found in the excavations of the French-Syrian Mission at Ras Ibn Hani, near Latakia : most of them are bronze coins struck in Phoenicia by Ptolemy II and Ptolemy ТЦ showing interesting countermarks, as well as second century coins of the Seleucid kings and of Phoenician cities. While expecting their publication, a brief account of those site-coins casts some light on the importance given during the Syrian Wars to this Ptolemaic stronghold, which was subsequently held by the Seleucids who erected a new fortress. The high number of Aradian coins also gives evidence of commercial relations between the dwellers of the town and neighbouring Phoenician cities.
