A tenth-century fibula with the inscription Caput régis features a crown which has prompted a new analysis of the various types of crown : besides the distinction between arched crowns and jewelled crowns, some depictions predating the « investiture dispute » may be interpreted as hybrid ones combining the crown itself, symbol of temporal power, with the cap, symbol of spiritual power. The hybrid type of this fibula is reminiscent of the châtel tournois and the article proposes that the châtel tournois may have represented such a crown.

La couronne représentée sur une fibule du Xe siècle à légende Caput régis permet de reprendre la question des couronnes : à côté de l'opposition entre couronnes à arceaux et à fleurons, on peut interpréter certaines représentations antérieures à la Querelle des investitures comme des couronnes associant la couronne, symbole du pouvoir temporel, et le bonnet, symbole du pouvoir spirituel. Le résultat tel qu'il apparaît sur la fibule n'est pas sans évoquer le châtel tournois où l'on propose de voir la représentation d'une telle couronne.
