La célèbre coupe d’orfèvrerie sassanide du Cabinet des médailles est traditionnellement attribuée au roi «Chosroès » . Le rôle des séries monétaires pour l’identification des effigies royales de la dynastie est reconnu de longue date, mais les progrès considérables faits en un siècle par la numismatique sassanide n’avaient pas encore été pleinement suivis d’effet dans l’interprétation de l’oeuvre, que nous proposerons ici de réattribuer au roi Kavadh Ier. Les comparaisons iconographiques doivent toujours tenir compte du contexte d’usage des objets, monnaies d’un côté, vaisselle de l’autre.
