Les monnaies d’argent post-plinthophores rhodiennes, portant au droit la tête radiée d’Hélios de face et la rose vue du dessus au revers, qualifiées comme drachmes de poids attique, doivent être dorénavant considérées comme des didrachmes du système monétaire des derniers groupes plinthophores (groupes appelés D, D1 et E selon le classement établi par K. Jenkins : des drachmes et leurs hémidrachmes, le poids desquels était équivalent à celui du quinaire et du sesterce d’argent respectivement). Ces didrachmes rhodiens post-plinthophores reflètent une réforme monétaire, indispensable pour la protection du caractère fermé de l’économie de Rhodes. L’État rhodien, ayant élargi son territoire suite à la guerre mithridatique, aurait sans doute dégagé des profits considérables par l’émission de ce nouveau monnayage, qui aurait sans faute couvert les actions militaires et/ ou les contributions financières aux commandants Romains.
