The Latin Florilegium as a Point of Comparison By attending to the many parallels between Chinese leishu and Latin florilegia which were numerous in Europe from the middle ages through the 17th century, I suggest that the study of florilegia and that of leishu can fruitfully draw on one another. I consider briefly problems of terminology (especially the term " encyclopedia "), the contexts in which florilegia were used and the methods by which they were compiled.

L'examen des florilèges latins, innombrables en Europe du Moyen Âge au XIIe siècle, permet de mettre en évidence de nombreux parallèles avec les leishu chinois, et de suggérer tout le profit réciproque que pourraient en tirer les spécialistes de ces deux champs. L'article traite de problèmes de terminologie - en particulier la notion d'« encyclopédie» -, des contextes d'emploi et des méthodes de compilation des florilèges.
