The Act No. 2007-293 of 5 March 2007 made indepth changes to the French child protection mechanism. Three main issues characterize this reform. The concepts underlying the interventions are, on the one hand, unified, and, on the other hand, enriched, since protection from then on extends to child development and covers preventive actions. The channels are restructured, providing for the centralization of reports to the General Council president and the definition of criteria for moving from social protection to judicial protection. The diversification of service provisions is aimed at fostering better individualization of case management, that is consistent with greater respect for the position of users

La loi no 2007-293 du 5 mars 2007 modifie en profondeur le dispositif français de protection de l’enfance. Trois principaux enjeux caractérisent cette réforme. Les concepts à la base des interventions sont d’une part unifiés, d’autre part enrichis, la protection s’étendant désormais au développement de l’enfant et recouvrant des actions de prévention. Une réorganisation des circuits prévoit la centralisation des signalements auprès du président du Conseil général et la définition de critères de passage de la protection sociale à la protection judiciaire. La diversification des prestations vise à favoriser une meilleure individualisation des prises en charge, cohérente avec un plus grand respect de la place des usagers
