For some twenty years, the child protection sector has undergone profound transformations justifying the legislator’s recent intervention to reform the established system (Act of 5 March 2007). The orientations retained involved diversifying case management modes and promoting new relations between professionals and families. First, we will summarize the definition of socio-educational interventions suggested by Durning (1995); second, we will examine the developments of professional practices in this field in France; and lastly, we will focus on the socioeducational innovations which have developed more particularly in the field of child protection and which have partly been the source of inspiration of the Act of 5 March 2007 reforming this field.

Depuis une vingtaine d’années, le secteur de la protection de l’enfance a connu de profondes transformations justifiant l’intervention récente du législateur afin de réformer le système établi (loi du 5 mars 2007). Parmi les orientations retenues, il s’agit notamment de diversifier les modes de prise en charge et de promouvoir de nouvelles relations entre professionnels et familles. Après avoir rappelé la définition que propose Durning (1995) des interventions socioéducatives, nous nous intéresserons aux évolutions des pratiques professionnelles dans ce domaine en France, avant de se centrer sur les innovations socio-éducatives qui se sont plus particulièrement développées dans le champ de la protection de l’enfance et qui ont été, en partie, source d’inspiration de la loi du 5 mars 2007 réformant ce champ
