Choppers, chopping tools, and large unretouched flake tools were found in Southwest Asia associated with the earliest, Lower Palaeolithic cultures, and then reappeared again in quantity after a long hiatus in the Epi-Palaeolithic/Proto-Neolithic period. This paper is meant to be a cautionary note; i.e., not to assume an early date for all such tools, especially those from derived deposits, solely on the basis of technology/typology.

Les choppers, chopping-lools et les grands outils sur éclats non retouchés sont associés en Asie du Sud-Ouest à des industries du Paléolithique inférieur ancien. Ils apparaissent de nouveau en grand nombre après un long hiatus à l'Epipaléolithique/Proto-Néolithique. On ne peut donc attribuer nécessairement une date ancienne à tous ces outils, surtout à ceux provenant de dépôts secondaires, sur des bases uniquement technologiques/typologiques.
