The configuration of a motionless sky as described by Sosia (Plautus, Amph. 272-276) is that of a Spring evening. Jupiter did therefore stop the revolution of the stars the moment he entered Alcmena's chamber and not at the end of the night. The season was a felicitous choice : it is the time of amours, of wars (hence the opportune absence of Amphitrio), of theatrical performances (the great Dionysia in Athens, the Megalesian Games in Rome). Molière (Amphitryon) did not retain any of the astronomical indications. Giraudoux (Amphitryon 38) modified them enhancing the symbolical connotation to the detriment of their actual visibility.

La configuration astronomique que décrit Sosie contemplant le ciel immobile (Plaute, Amph. 272-276) est celle d'une soirée de printemps. Jupiter a donc arrêté la révolution des astres dès son entrée dans la chambre d'Alcmène, et non en fin de nuit. La saison est heureusement choisie : temps de l'amour, temps des opérations militaires (d'où absence opportune d'Amphitryon), temps des représentations théâtrales (Grandes Dionysies à Athènes, Jeux Mégalésiens à Rome). Molière (Amphitryon) n'a rien gardé de ces précisions astronomiques. Giraudoux (Amphitryon 38) les modifie, en privilégiant les connotations symboliques des astres au détriment de leur visibilité réelle.
