The author has carried a research on Xenophon's Anabasis through the examination of the military equipment, the war tools and fighting techniques exploited by the Hellenic and Persian peoples, and by some eastern barbarian peoples. As a result of this examination, the author, from an ideological approach to the item, proposes that the direct contact that Xenophon had with different 'military' realities, does not seem to have modified in any way- and even less in a positive way- the image of the barbarian as it already been drawn up by the Hellenic writers in the 5th century b.C. Trough a punctual observation of reality, the author proposes that, on the contrary, this contact helped the Greek and Macedonian armies to organize themselves in a more articulate way, in the hellenistic age.

La recherche est focalisée sur l'équipement militaire, les instruments de guerre et les techniques de combat des Hellènes, des Perses et de quelques populations barbares d'Orient. Au niveau idéologique le contact direct de Xénophon avec les différentes réalités 'militaires' ne semble pas avoir modifié en sens positif l'image du barbare telle qu'elle avait été élaborée par la pensée hellénique au Ve siècle avant J.-C. Au niveau de la réalité, au contraire, ce contact servit à organiser d'une manière mieux structurée les armées gréco-macédoniennes de l'âge hellénistique.
