In two previous studies, the author has shown that, if the argument of St. Bonaventure based on the notion of creation ex nihilo is valueless in establishing the impossibility of an eternal world, his arguments founded on the impossibility of the infinite in act are irrefutable. In this new article he replies to the criticisms put forward by an anonymous reviewer in the Rassegna di letteratura tomistica and by Professor A. Zimmermann. Bringing to light the variations of St. Thomas on the notion of infinite in potentiality and on the impossibility of the infinite in act, he maintains that every infinite series cannot be realised and that, in consequence, the hypothesis of an eternal world, implying an infinite series of events accomplished, involves manifest contradictions. Only the extraordinary prestige of Aristotle can explain the fact that St. Thomas defended the possibility of an eternal world, when he had excluded, with his customary lucidity, every infinite in act.

Dans deux études antérieures, l'auteur a montré que, si l'argument de S. Bonaventure basé sur la notion de création ex nihilo est sans valeur pour établir l'impossibilité d'un monde éternel, ses arguments fondés sur l'impossibilité de l'infini en acte sont irréfutables. Dans ce nouvel article, il répond aux critiques formulées par un recenseur anonyme de la Rassegna di letteratura tomistica et par le Professeur A. Zimmermann. Mettant en lumière les variations de S. Thomas sur la notion d'infini en puissance et sur l'impossibilité de l'infini en acte, il maintient que toute série infinie est irréalisable et que, dès lors, l'hypothèse d'un monde éternel, impliquant une série infinie d'événements accomplis, entraîne de manifestes contradictions. Seul le prestige extraordinaire d'Aristote peut expliquer que S. Thomas ait défendu la possibilité d'un monde éternel, alors qu'il avait exclu, avec sa lucidité habituelle, tout infini en acte.
