Als die Siedlung von Ronchères angelegt wird, zieht dies bedeutende Bauarbeiten nach sich. Ein breiter und tiefer Graben begrenzt ein fast 1 ha. großes Siedlungsareal in einer Umgebung, in der sich Wälder und bestelltes Land abwechseln. Zahlreiche Indizien lassen erkennen, dass der Grundriss und die Anordnung der einzelnen Gebäude vorgeplant waren. Das Vorhandensein einer Schmiede, deren Produktion nicht auf den Eigenbedarf ausgerichtet ist, schließt eine bedeutende wirtschaftliche Funktion ein. Die Qualität des Keramikgeschirrs, der Amphoren und einer Knebeltrense sprechen für den Wohlstand der Bewohner. In gallo-römischer Zeit wird der Ort zwar umgestaltet, doch scheint er seinen hohen Rang eingebüßt zu haben und zunehmend zu verfallen. Im Laufe des 2. Jahrhunderts unserer Zeit wird er schließlich aufgegeben.

The way the site of Ronchères was conceived and laid out is quite remarkable. A deep wide ditch surrounds a residential area of nearly 1 hectare, where woods and fields alternate. There are numerous indications suggesting that the plan and the arrangement of the buildings had been conceived before their construction. The existence of an ironwork unit supplying more than simply local needs implies a major economic role. The excellence of the ceramic ware, amphorae, and a horse’s bit, show that the people living there were unquestionably prosperous. Even if reshaped in the Gallo-Roman period, the site appears to have lost its high status, and to have declined slowly till it disappears during the II nd century A. D.

Les aménagements réalisés lors de la mise en place du site de Ronchères sont remarquables. Un fossé large et profond délimite un habitat de presque 1 hectare dans un environnement où alternent forêts et cultures. Comme en témoignent de nombreux indices, le plan et la disposition des bâtiments étaient pensés avant la construction. La présence d’un atelier de forge dont la production n’est pas autarcique implique une fonction économique importante. La qualité des services céramiques, les amphores, et un mors de cheval ne démentent pas la prospérité dont bénéficient les habitants. Bien que remodelé à la période gallo-romaine le site n’apparait plus alors d’un statut élevé et périclite lentement pour s’éteindre dans le courant du IIe siècle de notre ère.
