Bei den von der AFAN auf der Trasse der Autobahn A 29 Amiens -St-Quentin durchgeführten Präventivgrabungen wurden in den Gemeinden Athies, Monchy-Lagache und Savy drei frühmittelalterliche ländliche Siedlungen erkannt. 2001 wurde die Keramik dieser geografisch eng beieinander gelegenen Siedlungen in ihrer Gesamtheit untersucht. Ziel der Studie war es, die Beschaffenheit und die Entwicklung der Keramikproduktion während annähernd vier Jahrhunderten, zwischen dem 5. und dem 9. Jh., in einem Sektor der Picardie zu bestimmen, der zu dieser Zeit einen gewissen Kenntnisrückstand aufwies. Obwohl die Ensembles quantitativ eher bescheiden waren, zeugten sie von einem Warentausch, insbesondere mit den merowingischen Produktionen aus der Gegend um Soisson.

The preventive excavations carried out by the AFAN on the projected route of the A 29 motorway between Amiens and Saint-Quentin revealed the existence of three rural settlements, dating from the early Middle Ages, in the villages of Athies, Monchy-Lagache and Savy. In 2001, the global study of the pottery unearthed on these neighbouring dwellings shed light on the nature and the evolution of these artefacts over a period of nearly four centuries, from the end of the 5th to the 9th century, in a part of Picardy which was previously underdocumented in that respect. In spite of the scarcity of the evidence, it was possible to demonstrate that exchanges took place in particular with the Merovingian products from the Soissons district.

Les opérations de fouille préventive menées par l’AFAN sur le tracé de l’autoroute A 29 Amiens-St-Quentin ont permis la découverte de trois sites ruraux du haut Moyen Âge sur les communes d’Athies, Monchy-Lagache et Savy. En 2001, l’étude globale de la céramique mise au jour sur ces occupations domestiques géographiquement proches a eu pour intérêt de préciser la nature et l’évolution des productions durant près de quatre siècles, entre la fin du Ve s. et le IXe s., dans un secteur de la Picardie qui souffrait alors d’un certain retard des connaissances en la matière. Malgré des ensembles quantitativement faibles, des échanges ont été reconnus notamment avec les productions mérovingiennes soissonnaises.
